The enlightenment

I find it strange that the enlightenment was against religious studies. I have always thought that enlightenment meant to be enlightened or to gain knowledge. For a period to go completely against a subject so versatile as religion is baffling. There are so many different aspects in religion and I can understand why it would be hard to understand how to study it. I do believe that through the study of the various religions as well as the one that a person chooses to fallow gives great insight to ones being and that of our fellow human beings. To be understanding of each religion and its customs is in itself to be wise. For through this knowledge is peace and understanding for all. We may not believe in everything or anything that the other various religions do but they all have connections to each other in some way.
